On this Friday, as people gathered to honour Muhammad’s birthday, a bomb went off near a mosque in the southwestern region of Balochistan.

The Mastung city police think it was a suicide bombing aimed at the church service.

The government has proclaimed an emergency situation.

According to authorities, two hospitals are receiving the injured.The number of fatalities was confirmed by two Mastung city police officials to BBC News.

The minister of the interior, Sarfraz Bugti, referred to the explosion as a “very heinous act.” There are numerous videos on social dia showing first responders and residents helping the injured. The incident has been blamed on no specific group.

According to government official Atta Ullah, one of the dead was a top police officer. He named the officer as Mohammad Nawaz, deputy superintendent of police.

The attack hurt more than 50 other people.

Seven people were hurt when a bomb went off in a mosque next to a police station in Hangu, a town in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Shah Raz Khan, a police officer in the area.

He said that the blast caused the mud-brick mosque to fall down, and rescuers were clearing away the rubble to get people out of it. Police say it wasn’t clear right away what made the explosion happen.

Many people were praying at the mosque when the bomb went off, but no one claimed credit. It was also not clear what caused the blast.

As the new death toll was announced, a senior police officer said that a suicide bomber had “detonated himself near the vehicle of the deputy superintendent of police.”
